Keeping the Mining Community Running with Hitachi Genuine Parts

Wajax has a unique challenge that most other Hitachi Construction Machinery dealers don’t have; they service equipment in some of the harshest weather on earth. In Northern Canada, close to the Arctic Circle, the weather can reach as low as -40° F/C, with winds capable of freezing eyelashes. Even if a machine goes down in the worst weather conditions, Wajax’s over 110 locations across Canada are equipped to keep Hitachi machines up and running.

As the only official Hitachi machinery dealer currently in Canada, Wajax carries both mining and construction equipment and parts. Their newest facility, a 17,000 ft2 parts warehouse in Fort McMurray is primarily stocked with Hitachi Genuine Parts and serves the region’s oilsands mines. Canada is home to more than 70% of the world's oilsands: a naturally occurring crude oil soaked in sand that is separated through heat extraction and converted into petroleum. The petroleum is then used to make countless everyday items like gasoline, diesel, lubricants, and paint.

These mines keep rigid schedules to make sure their massive operations stay on track because they know they are fueling their communities. Unlike construction projects, mining projects are planned out decades at a time and a key part of that plan is equipment lifecycle costs. Oilsands mines invest in equipment that will take them through the completion of the project with the least amount of downtime and resulting lost revenue. Which is why the region’s mines have been increasingly relying on Hitachi equipment. “We were excited to get [the new excavator series] up here in the oilsands as their reliability seems to be unsurpassed in our opinion,” said a representative of a mine in the region. Apart from the smooth, fluid operation of Hitachi machinery, their precision engineering limits downtime for mines, helping them meet their production targets.

The Fort McMurray Wajax location includes a parts warehouse, service bays, and warranty specialists. They work together to ensure that Hitachi machines in the region are consistently well-maintained to keep the mines running. To address emergencies quickly they are available 24 hours a day, year-round, and can send field technicians to service machines on site.
