The arrival of one of Hitachi’s largest excavators – a ZX530LCH-7 – is helping an Italian construction company fulfil an important contract linked to the Winter Olympics 2026.
This is the first machine over 50 tonnes purchased by Dolomiti Strade, which is based in Belluno, northeast Italy. The company has deployed the excavator on a project to widen State Road 51 at Alemagna, along the Piave River in Veneto’s Longarone municipality.
River diversion
The ZX530LCH-7’s key task is to excavate around one million tonnes of material for a temporary diversion of the river’s course. This infrastructure project will help the region get ready for the Olympics, which is being hosted by Milan and nearby Cortina d’Ampezzo.
The construction company’s other orange machines include a ZX300LCN-7, a ZX225USL-7 and a ZX155W-7. These machines are being put to work on various local jobsites, from environmental restoration projects to building the new Cortina ring road.
Robust and reliable
The robustness and reliability of this equipment are key reasons why the Dolomiti Strade has expanded its Hitachi range. The machines can cope with the region’s demanding hilly and rocky terrain, often operating in areas where communication networks are not always efficient.
Hitachi excavators are also proving popular with very important members of the Dolomiti Strade team. “Our operators appreciate them very much for their precision, fluidity and ability to work in contexts where other machines have limitations,” says says founder Christian Chinol.
