A specially customised 35-tonne ZX350-7 hydraulic excavator has been developed by Hitachi Construction Machinery France (HCMF) in response to a request from its customer, Pajot Travaux Publics, based in Maine-et-Loire. The Zaxis-7 model, which was presented exclusively at Intermat last year, has a two-piece boom and is equipped with a Gilbert vibratory hammer.
This is the first time that Hitachi has supplied a two-piece boom on an excavator of this size. The customisation involved several weeks of development by the specialised HCMF team.
A two-piece boom allows high levels of power to be concentrated, even in confined spaces. Thanks to the boom’s retractability, work can be carried out close to the cab, while minimising the footprint of the machine.
HCMF believes demand for more powerful excavators that can work in smaller spaces is set to increase in France over the next few years. Thibaut Porcher, Hitachi France Sales Manager, explains: "Public works companies such as Pajot are carrying out an increasing number of projects in urban or semi-urban environments, requiring the use of powerful machines in ever smaller sizes. The installation of a two-piece boom on this 35-tonne excavator enables this type of work to be carried out in confined areas.”
Performance and efficiency
The ZX350-7 also benefits from Hitachi’s state-of-the-art hydraulic system, TRIAS III, which guarantees a high level of performance in every application. Its superior efficiency stands out during loading or heavy excavation operations.
The operator of Pajot’s customised Hitachi machine was impressed by its performance and user-friendly operation: “The stability is very good for an excavator of this power and it was very easy to get the hang of. To give you an idea, the two tools at the end of the machine have a combined weight of 7.5 tonnes.”
Customised solutions
The ZX350-7 excavator is specially equipped with a Gilbert GRIZZLY Multigrip high-frequency vibratory hammer, which is distributed in France by Pajot. With a vibration frequency of 2,800 rpm, this technology enables sheet piling, tubes and wooden piles to be handled and installed without height constraints, thanks to its side grip.
