Operator Steve Musmeci has a small sticker on the side of his Hitachi ZX150W-7 that reads, ‘My other car is an Aston Martin’. A luxury sports car enthusiast, he also has some interesting insights on the performance of Zaxis-7 wheeled excavators.
Since March 2025, he’s been using the ZX150W-7 on a motorway improvement scheme in the south of England. “The fuel efficiency is good, especially for travelling around this site – I once did 22 miles [35 km] in one day!”
He was also impressed by the cab of the Zaxis-7 machine, which was supplied by Synergy Hire to sub-contractor CP Groundworks Ltd for the project. “It’s a big improvement on older Hitachi machines,” he says. “I like the display in the cab, the steering wheel is a good size, and the overall layout is great,” he adds.
With 40 years of operating experience, Steve has sat in the cab of a variety of excavators from different manufacturers. His first Hitachi machine was the 77-tonne UH30, and he also has fond memories of working with some large Hitachi EX excavators, including an EX1200-7 long-reach: “They never broke down,” he says.
