How fleet management systems can optimise your operations
Improving productivity
By harnessing the latest in telematics, it’s possible to track and monitor the performance of fleet machinery through GPS technology and onboard diagnostics. The collection and transmission of data related to factors such as location, engine efficiency, fuel consumption and run-time can be used to improve productivity while avoiding unnecessary downtime. There’s even a safety dividend, as a machine’s activity can be checked to ensure operators are taking proper breaks.
Predictive maintenance
In addition, by taking advantage of the latest advancements in predictive analytics and machine learning, contractors can spot potential faults and breakdowns before they happen. Predictive maintenance strategies can then be devised that minimise unplanned downtime. The proactive scheduling of maintenance also helps to extend the lifespan of parts and equipment.
“Coupled with artificial intelligence, and over 20 years of machine data, we are developing a predictive system to further reduce total cost of ownership and enhance the reliability of Hitachi machines,” says Arthur da Rocha Geremia, HCME Product Manager.
Monitoring the workload of each machine in a fleet can help a business plan more effectively, for example in terms of allocating the correct assets for the job. Through these systems, it’s also possible to tap into historic data about previous projects to inform decisions about buying new machines and equipment.
Explore LANDCROS Connect
Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe’s latest development in this area is LANDCROS Connect, an innovative all-in-one fleet management system launched at Bauma 2025. Designed to support customers with mixed fleets, it provides instant access to performance data from Hitachi machinery as well as other brands.
Contractors benefit from a bird’s-eye view of their operations, with the ability to create job sites, set geofences, compare performance across locations, and generate detailed reports on idling time, fuel use and CO2 emissions.
“We have evolved from being solely an equipment manufacturer to becoming a comprehensive solution provider,” says Pooja Gupta, HCME Product Manager Solution Linkage. “By adopting new technologies and digital tools – and utilising them in the correct way – owners and operators can work with greater precision, productivity and ease.”
