Italian construction company chooses Hitachi excavator for a demanding alpine project
Working in a sensitive alpine environment with narrow operating windows meant the machine had to combine power and precision. The Hitachi ZX350LC-7, supplied by local Hitachi dealer Salomoni srl, provided the ideal solution.
A modern fleet of machinery
“The arrival of the ZX350LC-7 on the Rio del Lago construction site is part of the company’s strategy to equip itself with a modern, high-performance fleet of machines,” said Andrea Gallici, Logistics and Fleet Manager at Adriacos.
With an operating weight of 37 tonnes and 210 kW of power, the ZX350LC-7 delivers the strength required for deep excavation and the handling of large boulders found along the riverbed.
“The ZX350LC-7 is capable of tackling the most demanding challenges, guaranteeing us high productivity and at the same time being an extremely efficient and versatile excavator, with lower fuel consumption than the previous series,” added Andrea.
ZX350LC-7 plays a central role
The Municipality of Tarvisio commissioned Adriacos to strengthen a 575-metre stretch of the Rio del Lago, an area situated between historic mine sites and the SS54 road. The work includes de-gravelling, removing outdated groynes, and rebuilding bank protection to modern standards.
Initial excavation covered around 6,800 m² and required moving 13,000 m³ of gravel, all managed according to strict regulations before being reused for embankments and other works.
The ZX350LC-7 played a central role in accelerating this phase, helping the team make the most of the river’s short low-flow period. “Working in the riverbed with an excavator of this type allows us to compress the work schedule as much as possible,” explains Andrea.
Old concrete groynes (some more than 40 metres long) were dismantled, with blocks sent for certified recovery. New reinforced bank structures are now being installed, using large boulders designed to stabilise the riverbed and improve flow.
Challenging conditions
Mountain weather remains a challenge. “It is always necessary to have a plan B, given that we cannot control the weather,” says Andrea. “In the event of construction site blockages due to heavy rainfall, the company must be ready to deploy additional machinery to quickly make up for lost time.”
Through careful planning and the use of the Hitachi ZX350LC-7, Adriacos is delivering a safe, resilient river environment – built with the right machinery for the job.
