Just over three years ago, general manager Erik Nilsen and machine operator Stein Widar at Arne Olav Lund AS received a new Hitachi ZX155W-7 from dealer Nasta AS. This time, the Vestfold contractor welcomes another Hitachi ZX155W-7 to their fleet, along with two Hitachi ZX225USLC-7 crawler excavators.
A happy Hitachi operator
The wheeled excavator was already working on a project at Eik outside Tønsberg when Nasta’s service mechanic Erlend Roligheten and machine salesman Kjell Sørensen arrived for the handover.
Jonas Dragnes, the machine operator at Arne Olav Lund AS, had already tested the machine and was happy to receive the new equipment. Also present was technical manager Christoffer Hanssen, who has worked at the company for 17 years and praised the workplace for its great jobs and equipment.
Well-equipped machines
At Arne Olav Lund AS, machines are well-equipped. Standard attachments include excavator and sanding buckets, tilt with clamp, ripper, and grate. Lighting is a particular focus, with extensive lighting on excavators for safety and visibility.
“We need a lot of light on the excavators to be able to see well and to be able to work well,” says Christoffer. “There is even light upwards to be able to avoid running into cables and the like.”
“We also have a height limit on the machines,” he adds. “The grate is removable and used when needed. So we have a lot of equipment on the machines and the machine operators are very happy with that.”
A strong fleet of machinery
Today, its fleet consists of around 30 machines of various brands, but with one core philosophy: the machines must work reliably every day. The company monitors operating costs closely to decide when to replace machinery and looks to the operators for their opinions on which machinery to purchase.
“The machines should be in order – and work every single day. They should also suit the machine operators so they can operate them well,” says Hanssen.
