Hitachi machinery helps Dutch customer deliver on safety promises

Several new Hitachi excavators – including ZX300LC-7s and a ZX890LC-7 – have expanded the fleet of De Romein Group, following the earlier purchase of an EX1200-7. Some of these have already been delivered to the company by dealer Hitachi Construction Machinery Nederland, with more to come in the next few months.

With operations across Europe, the Veendam-based international contractor continues to invest in reliable equipment to support its wide-ranging civil engineering, pipeline, and cable installation projects.

A versatile excavator

The EX1200-7, delivered after Bauma 2022, proved its worth on a large remediation project before being reconfigured for use as a long-reach excavator on De Romein’s nearshore dredger, Capall Mara. “We chose the EX1200-7 for its extra lifting power and productivity with an extended boom,” says Operations Manager Roel Velema. “It’s a machine that can take on heavy-duty work in a variety of configurations.” Modified in partnership with Snijder BV, the excavator was fitted with a three-section boom offering a maximum digging depth of 22m. It was also fully coated and prepared by De Romein Industrial Coatings for work in maritime environments. Since late 2024, the machine has been deployed on power cable landings in France and the UK, including at Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

Strong collaboration

According to Dave Kloppenburg of Hitachi Construction Machinery Nederland, De Romein is a contractor that carefully researches its equipment choices. “They know exactly what they want from a machine, and Hitachi fits that requirement.”

For Velema, the experience has been positive: “The EX1200 proves to be strong and reliable. Despite its size, it offers comfort, precise control, and excellent visibility for the operator.

“Safety is a top priority for us,” he adds. “Our slogan is ‘Think safe. Work safe. Home safe.’ The Hitachi helps us deliver on that promise.”
