Why Hitachi is an important provider for historic French limestone quarry
It’s been almost one year since the arrival of the EX1200-7 at the Héming quarry in France. This ultra-large excavator is the second EX1200 model to be purchased by Eqiom as it has shifted away from using larger 250-tonne machines to faster, smaller and more economical equipment. Quarry Manager Raphaël Amet reflects on the company’s latest investment and its ongoing partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe).
Hitachi is an essential provider for extraction in the Héming quarry and for Eqiom,” he says. “The principal activity is limestone extraction in order to produce cement. So we need efficient machines and high availability.”
Aside from the impressive performance of the EX1200 excavators, which have contributed to lower fuel consumption and proved to be extremely reliable (the first model reached 7,000 working hours in six years), the service and support from HCME have been crucial. From expert advice on equipment and bucket selection, to personalised operator training, HCME has worked closely with Eqiom to modernise its operations, and meet its performance and sustainability goals.
“We need a provider that can support us on the feasibility assessment process, as we have done together in the past few years,” explains Raphaël. “And a provider who is always looking for further optimisation.”
