Seven companies and 11 bases of Hitachi Construction Machinery Group participated in the CO2 reduction and lights-off campaign run by the Ministry of the Environment.
For the campaign, lights were switched off from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both the summer solstice on June 21 and Cool Earth Day on July 7 to prevent global warming.
At the Japanese bases that took part, lighting for signs and the like was turned off, and an extended lights-off period from May to October was established with the expectation of stemming a total of 16,595 kWh and about 9,100 kg of CO2 emissions*1 or the equivalent amount of CO2 absorbed by around 650 cedar trees*2. Although Japanese bases were the target for the campaign, there was also active participation by overseas bases.
To contribute to the prevention of global warming, Hitachi Construction Machinery Group will continue to promote CO2 reduction activities through events like the lights-off campaign.
