On 10th October 2018, Hitachi Asia Ltd. (a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.) and Hitachi Construction Machinery (Malaysia) volunteers conducted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program entitled Universal Design Workshop for Schools.
The purpose of the program is to create awareness amongst the participants in designing products or facilities that are easy to be used by the diversified society (disabled, elderly, children, etc.).
The session was divided into 2 parts. In the first part of the session, the trainer explained about Universal Design, the concepts and applications of the design in our diversified society. The second part involves a workshop whereby the participants were divided into several small groups to discuss and draw out their inventions of an object or facilities adopting the Universal Design concepts. After that, the representative from each group made a presentation to explain more about their inventions.
At the end of the workshop, the participants understood the Universal Design Concept and able to create unique inventions based on their understanding from the whole program.
We may extend the program to involve more high schools in the Klang Valley.
