Hitachi Construction Machinery receives order for mining machinery for gold mine in Turkey

12 Oct, 2012

– First time combination in Turkey of electrical motor-driven type ultra-large hydraulic excavator and trolley assist dump trucks –

Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (president: Yuichi Tsujimoto) received a package order of eight machineries, combining electrical motor-driven type ultra-large hydraulic excavator and trolley assist dump trucks for gold mines in Turkey, for the first time in Turkey.

The order was received from Tüprag Metal Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret AS, an affiliated company of Eldorado Gold Corporation, a Canadian gold production company, and is developing Kişladağ Gold Mine which has the largest gold production volume in Turkey. The eight machineries consist of one EX5600, an electrical motor-driven type ultra-large hydraulic excavator, and seven EH4000AC rigid dump trucks, an AC drive using the latest IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) inverter provided by Hitachi, Ltd. Total order volume, including maintenance parts, is expected to be over 4 billion yen.

The EH4000 AC rigid dump truck adopts trolley system, which takes power through installed cables on a slope using its pantograph equipped on top. Because both electrical motor-driven type ultra-large hydraulic excavator and the dump truck utilize electric power provided by a power plant in the mine site, fuel costs are expected to be reduced substantially. Although this combination has been adopted mainly in southern Africa, it will be the first case in Middle East mines, let alone in Turkey.

In Kişladağ Gold Mine, two EX3600 ultra-large hydraulic excavators (engine-type), delivered in 2006 by Hitachi Construction Machinery, have been already operated and built a good reputation for their high operation rate. The machineries of this order are scheduled to be shipped individually from the beginning of 2013. In addition to this contract, about 40 machineries in total are expected to be delivered depending on future situation, including EX5600 and EH4000AC, both the same type as those ordered this time. As such, the total order volume including maintenance parts as well as existing order would be over 40 billion yen. The additional orders are expected to be delivered between the end of 2013 and the end of 2016.
