Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia Hosts Ceremony to Celebrate Remanufacturing Center Expansion
On June 5, 2025, Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia (Head office: Lusaka, Republic of Zambia; President: Nobuhiko Saito) held a ceremony to commemorate the expansion of its remanufacturing center. The commemorative ceremony was attended by over 200 guests including President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia (hereinafter, "Zambia"), government officials, as well as customers and partner companies of Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia.
Zambia is blessed with abundant mineral resources such as copper and cobalt, which are actively being extracted. Due to advances in resource development, the demand for mining machinery is expected to increase going forward.
As part of its operations, Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia provides after-sales service and remanufactured components for mining and construction machinery to mining companies, including Zambia's largest-scale copper mine. In addition, the company is actively engaged in developing local talent through participation in a government-private sector joint project aimed at training construction machinery operators*1 , while also advancing technological innovation through the ongoing piloting of an ultra-large full battery rigid frame dump truck at a customer’s mining site.
This expansion of the remanufacturing center marks the second such expansion since 2016. The current project has newly secured a 20,000 m2 site, which is the same lot size as the previous site, to build a new storage warehouse for remanufactured parts and an engine rebuilding workshop. The number of machines in operation is scheduled to increase due to the receipt of large orders from customers in Zambia and neighboring countries. Accordingly, the company will address the growing need for machinery maintenance and remanufactured parts going forward.
*1: The "Project for Promoting Youth Employment Through Construction Equipment Operating Skills Training" is a joint initiative between the government and private sector that is funded by the Japanese government and implemented by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in Zambia.
Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia aims to continue contributing to Zambia and local African communities and will work to strengthen its after-sales service and remanufacturing business technologies and develop human resources.
